Fall is finally here, and I'm all about the color olive for the cooler months. I was on the hunt for the perfect olive top to add to my closet, and was so pleasantly surprised when I stumbled upon this one for under $15! This basic olive tee will easily be my new go to. But what I'm crushing on even more than the color? The little criss-cross detail in the back!
If you didn't know already, you could have pretty easily guessed that I'm a jeans an t-shirt kind of girl (oh...the graphic tee empire wasn't a big enough clue?), but I like my classic jeans and tee look to have a bit of a twist. Usually, that's in the form of a graphic tee, but recently I realized my closet didn't have enough basics (who wants boring basics?!) So, I've been trying to expand my wardrobe by having more traditionally "classic" pieces readily available. The problem? I like something with a little flair, and something that stands out.
So imagine my delight when I found a basic olive tee...with a twist! Or should I say a criss-cross? The little detail on the back of this top is the exact sort of extra flair that I look for in a closet staple. I mean, I totally understand why it's important to have basics readily available. They really do stretch the number of outfits you can put together. Plus they are perfect for when you need to get dressed QUICK without spending too much time thinking about what you are going to wear. But...your closet should still be a representation of YOU and your personal style. For me, that just happens to be something with a little flair. Hence, my criss-cross love affair!
I kept the rest of the look pretty classic. I cuffed my favorite pair of semi-distressed skinny jeans, and added a simple pair of brown oxford flats to round out the look. This was one of those "it's coolish outside, but the humidity is KILLING me" weather days. So I'm glad my basic olive tee was flowy and breathes well. Later in the evening, I switched out my flats for brown cut-out heels, and transitioned this look to dinner out. See what I mean about those darn basics? They work for everything!
