Chicago is in full on fall mode these days. Lately it's been super dreary and rainy, but that's okay...that's just part of fall's charm! Part of why I love fall so much is the fashion. I'm a sucker for anything that looks fabulous and feels extra cozy. I've mentioned it before and I'll say it again, my closet is built for fall.
One of my favorite fall staples is the southwestern cardigan. I have more than I'd like to admit. But I certainly wear them all! I personally like BB Dakota and Jack by BB Dakota sweaters the most when looking for the perfect southwestern cardigan.
This past weekend, I attended a Pop-Up Market for Anthropologie. My second company, XO Marshmallow, was one of the vendors selling product. I wanted to look cute since we would be interacting with customers, but I also wanted to be comfortable since I was going to be working for several hours. I also knew that I wanted to create a look that would go well with Anthropologie and their brand. Cue my favorite black, red, and white southwestern cardigan.
This one is from Modcloth, but isn't available anymore. It's by Jack by BB Dakota (see? I told you I love their stuff), and it's still one of my favorites. I actually originally bought it back when I was still in college at Texas Tech. I wanted something cute to wear to football games when it got colder, while still sporting our red and black colors. Years later, it's still a classic fall staple that I absolutely love having in my closet.
Since my southwestern cardigan is already a patterned statement piece, I wanted to keep the rest of my look fairly classic. I layered the cardigan over a simple cream colored knit sweater since cream was present in the cardigan in order to help tie the look together.
I firmly believe everyone should invest in a few simple sweaters for the fall and winter months. I scored a whole bunch at H&M last year because I finally found a fit that I just fell in love with. I ended up buying this cream sweater in six colors because the price and fit was perfect. I find myself turning to them constantly throughout the cooler months because they are the perfect base layer...and after all, cooler months are all about layers. Take the time to invest in a few simple base sweaters in neutral colors. They will become the foundation for the rest of your fall wardrobe.
I ended the look with my favorite dark wash skinny jeans from Joe's Jeans and my absolute favorite new pair of taupe booties. Anytime I know I am going to wear booties, I tend to cuff my jeans. I typically just like that look better, not always, but most of the time.
And these booties...oh my gosh these booties. The color, fit, and feel of these booties are just the best. I fell in love with them pretty much instantly and they came home with me that day. They come in 5 colors and are under $60! I really want to get them in navy next. I just think having a classic taupe bootie helps make your look so much more versatile in the fall. These kept me from reaching for a black bootie, which could have made the outfit look way too dark -- especially on such a dreary day.
Ultimately, my southwestern cardigan got me through marshmallow madness while keeping me fashionable and cozy. Trust me, this won't be the last time you see me rock one this fall.
